The Future of Substance Use Recovery
Nearly 30 million people worldwide are affected by substance use disorders. Despite current treatment options, relapse rates are 60% or higher. Half of clients enrolled in a treatment program will drop out in the first month. The demand for treatment continues to outpace available staffing and funding. What is the answer?

Guiding Conceptual Framework
To change the future of substance use recovery, each person must be treated as an individual. The Neuman System Model provides framework that can change the perspective of clients and how we treat them. Each client is a system that interacts with stressors in their environments. The focus is to identify the stressors affecting the client, strengthen the lines of defense through targeted interventions, and work together to restore balance and maintain a state of wellness. Ultimately this reduces the impact of stressors and promotes mental health resilience. By adapting the program to each individual, clients have a greater chance of success.
